Push notifications let Wrk It deliver habit reminders directly to your device even when the app isn’t open. Once enabled, the app sends you a nudge at the times you configure — so you never miss a habit check-in because you forgot to open the app.

How to enable push notifications

1

Open your profile

Tap the profile icon in the bottom navigation bar to go to the Profile page.
2

Find the Notifications section

Scroll down to the Notifications section. You’ll see a toggle at the top of the section.
3

Turn on notifications

Tap the toggle to enable notifications. Your browser displays a permission prompt asking whether to allow Wrk It to send you notifications.
4

Allow the permission

Click or tap Allow in the browser prompt. Wrk It registers your device for push delivery and sends a test notification so you can confirm everything is working.
After you grant permission, Wrk It schedules your reminder times and syncs them with the backend. You don’t need to keep the app open for reminders to arrive.

Browser and device requirements

Push notifications work on the following platforms:
  • Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) and Android
  • Safari on macOS (version 16 and later)
  • iOS and iPadOS — see the note below
Wrk It must be served over HTTPS for push notifications to function. If you’re accessing the app from a plain HTTP URL, the notification toggle will be unavailable.
iPhone and iPad users: Web push notifications on iOS and iPadOS require iOS/iPadOS 16.4 or later, and the app must be installed to your Home Screen before you enable notifications. Notifications do not work from a regular Safari tab. See Install Wrk It as a PWA for instructions on adding the app to your Home Screen.

What happens after you enable notifications

Once permission is granted:
  • Wrk It registers a push subscription tied to your account and device.
  • Your reminder schedule is synced to the backend so reminders fire at the times you set, even after you close the app or restart your browser.
  • Wrk It’s background process receives each reminder and displays the notification on your device, even when the app isn’t open.
  • Notifications show the title Wrk It Reminder and a message prompting you to complete your habit. Tapping the notification opens the app.

Troubleshooting

Notifications are enabled in Wrk It but never appear
  1. Check that your browser hasn’t blocked notifications for the site. In Chrome, open Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Notifications and confirm Wrk It is in the Allowed list. In Firefox, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions → Notifications.
  2. Make sure your operating system’s notification settings allow your browser to show notifications. On macOS, go to System Settings → Notifications and verify your browser is enabled. On Windows, open Settings → System → Notifications and check your browser.
  3. On iPhone or iPad, confirm you installed Wrk It to your Home Screen before granting permission. If you enabled notifications from a Safari tab first, remove the permission in Settings → Safari → Advanced → Website Data, install the app to your Home Screen, and then re-enable notifications inside the app.
The notification toggle is grayed out or missing Your browser may not support the Push API. Try opening Wrk It in the latest version of Chrome or Edge. If you’re on iOS, make sure you’re running iOS 16.4 or later and have added the app to your Home Screen. You granted permission but the toggle flipped back off This can happen if the push subscription failed to save. Tap the toggle again to retry. If the problem persists, try refreshing the page and enabling notifications once more.
